The most famous campsite in Nyungwe Forest National Park is Uwinka. There are two secluded sections of campsites on raised platforms, complete with pleasant gazebos, parking and campfire, 50 metres away from the main road. One campsite consists of three tents and lies near the visitor centre while the second 12-tent section is located 200 metres away deep in the forest with views over the tree canopy and Lake Kivu. Tents are provided though you’ll need your own sleeping bags and blankets. There is a fully functional restaurant which serves simple meals but if your prefer to make your own meals, gas is provided by the facility. Most nature walks and activities start at this campsite so there is no need to trek long distances or drive.
Another campsite in Nyungwe is at Mt Bigugu which is the highest point of the park and overlooks Lake Kivu. Visitors are required to bring their own water here since there’s no water source.
Located at the entrance of the park is Gisakura campsite which is a starring point for adventures in chimpanzee trekking
Lake Kivu
